He calls on Lee to quit – but defeated PAP candidate says party must stand by responsibilities to people

MR. David Marshall snatched victory in Anson tonight with a narrow majority of 546 votes over the People’s Action Party candidate, Inche Mahmud bin Awang. The ex-Chief Minister and leader of the Workers’ Party polled 3,598 votes against Inche Mahmud’s 3,052.

In his hour of victory, Mr. Marshall called upon the Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, to resign – amidst thunderous cheers from his supporters and boos from sections of the crowd outside…
